Specials Electrical Engineer - $85K-$90K

Ocean Technology Systems, a world leader in underwater communications, needs an electrical engineering with mechanical engineering talents!

Job Summary:

Design, develop, assemble, & test new and existing OTS products to meet customer’s specific needs and requirements for special orders.

Primary Duties:

  • Create a cost analysis for proposed special orders and determine lead time for the build or modification
  • Determine whether a customer’s design or functionality request is possible
  • Create and / or provide technical drawings for special orders and fixtures, when requested
  • Determine and source for parts and materials needed for special builds
  • Pot connectors and other components using 2-part epoxies
  • Conformal coat, program, and test, PCBA’s
  • Generate schematics, bill of materials, machine and assembly drawings, labels, artwork, and instructions, when applicable
  • Ensure product quality, reliability, and safety in all aspects of production from engineering to assembly.
  • Ensure all directions in work instruction for the role are adhered to
  • Ensure required documentation is received and reviewed prior to starting any project
  • Provide technical support to other departments and customers
  • Accurately manage, update, and send special order progress report
  • Communicate any delay exceeding the communicated due date to applicable parties
  • Communicate to all interpersonal departments, management, and customers using proper business etiquette in a timely matter
  • Train new / other team members
  • Any other assignments or projects designated by Management
  • Adhere to established KPI’s
  • Maintain clean and organized work station
  • Perform root cause analysis on production and field failures
  • Build & test protypes
  • Provide special order build direction to the Electromechanical Assembler ensuring adherence to requirements and a high level of quality

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of materials including adhesives, potting materials, plastics, and metals is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting of sophisticated systems to include circuit issues, EMC/ESD mitigation.
  • Proven track record providing technical direction, guidance and expertise.
  • Technical design/leadership and management of projects including external contractors, partners and suppliers.
  • Familiarity or some level of programming experience with C and C++.
  • Substantial soldering experience lead-free, through-hole and surface mounted PCBA.
  • Must have analog audio knowledge and the ability to download programs into microprocessors.
  • Must be able to read and understand schematics.
  • Customer service and communication skills.
  • The ability to machine with manual machines, preferred.
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot at the component level of digital analog circuit boards.
  • Ability to create design documentation and work independently.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office programs including Outlook and Excel.
  • Draftsight, Autocad, and Syteline experience ideal.
  • Experience building prototypes.
  • Must have excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines and order due dates.
  • Must be able to test, inspect, and troubleshoot electronic circuitries by the use of test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and digital multi-meter.
  • 3D modeling utilizing Solidworks is a plus
  • Must have electronics knowledge and experience.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of three years as an Electrical Engineer
  • Some mechanical experience preferred
  • Project Management experience helpful

Current Schedule: (may change due to work conditions):
Two Schedules to choose from 8/80 or 9/80 with every other Friday off!

Fridays we close at 3pm

This is a full-time position at our location in Santa Ana, CA.  This is not a remote job.

Benefits offered:

Compensation: $85k-$90k depending on experience

  • PTO/Vacation: Employee accrue 5 vacation days (40 hours) through the first year, with an increase beyond the first year + Paid Holidays

International Salesperson

Pay: $90,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year

Job Summary

The International Sales Representative is responsible for the ongoing development of an assigned territory, supporting both existing customers and new prospects to help the sales department achieve growth targets.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Create and execute a territory sales strategy aligned with personal objectives and company growth goals.

  • Respond to phone calls and emails professionally and within 1 business day.

  • Communicate regularly with current and prospective customers, provide solutions as needed, and oversee all sales activity in the assigned territory.

  • Travel to customer locations to present products, services, and pricing in a professional manner.

  • Submit required paperwork (expense reports, trip reports, etc.) in a timely manner.

  • Maintain compliance with established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Attend weekly sales meetings/conference calls and 1:1 meetings with the Sales Manager.

  • Follow up monthly on all open quotes and document updates/next steps in the appropriate database.

  • Develop strategic account plans for top customers and submit to the Sales Manager.

  • Maintain a sales pipeline aligned with close ratio and quota requirements.

  • Maintain records to support sales forecasts, territory potential, workload analysis, customer visit/call programs, and sales routing.

  • Collect and report competitive information to management.

  • Attend key training activities and exhibit at military/government trade shows.

  • As applicable, manage the order process professionally and recommend products/services that meet customer needs.

  • Apply advanced product knowledge to assist customers and internal support staff when needed.

  • Understand and support established sales policies and procedures to ensure efficient customer service.

  • Resolve customer complaints and issues in cooperation with management.

  • Assist with training of sales staff as requested.

  • Adhere to company procedures, policies, and core values while accurately representing the company.

  • Perform duties efficiently to reduce costs and maximize profitability when possible.

  • Develop and submit an annual travel plan (customer visits, demo days, trade shows, seminars, etc.).

  • Book airfare and travel accommodations in a timely manner to secure best available rates.

  • Use sound judgment and discretion when handling sales inquiries.

  • Prepare quotes, contracts, and RFP/RFI responses with accurate product configurations.

  • Draft and distribute professional correspondence (emails, memos, faxes) using initiative and timely follow-through.

  • Maintain accurate records in Syteline and other relevant databases.

  • Perform general administrative tasks as needed (filing, copying, faxing, mailing) and maintain organized filing systems.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 50%–70%).

  • Strong ability to plan and organize projects independently while working remotely.

  • Self-motivated, autonomous, and proactive.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; minimum typing speed of 50 WPM.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent and 1–3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Must be professional and able to pass a background check.

  • SCUBA certification is not required but recommended.


Physical Demands

  • Comfortable around/in water and on boats; able to swim and stand in water.

  • Capable of travel demands (driving, flying, boating).

  • Able to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods; frequent use of hands/fingers; ability to talk/hear regularly.

  • Ability to lift equipment up to 70 lbs.

  • Comfortable working in varied environments, including high humidity and cold weather.


Work Environment

When in town, this role reports to company headquarters in an office setting. Travel is global as needed, including frequent work on military/government installations and occasional work on/in/around water.

Sr Electro-Mechanical Assembler - $24-$26/hr in Santa Ana

We are in need of a dedicated, professional and reliable Senior Electro-Mechanical Assembler.

Job Summary:

Assemble and rework complex mechanical and electrical components, sub-assemblies and full assemblies.

Job Duties:

  • ·Assemble small parts manually
  • Ensure that special order requirements and standards are met consistently
  • Solder components to PCBA, cables, and connectors
  • Use hand tools and test equipment safely and effectively
  • Perform wiring, soldering, crimping, and mechanical assembly with precision and accuracy
  • Identify and troubleshoot assembly issues and propose and / or implement corrective actions
  • Use an engraving machine
  • Make every effort to increase productivity and efficiency without compromising quality
  • Work cooperatively with the Specials Electrical Engineer to ensure the correct order specifications are being adhered to
  • Ensure all assemblies meet quality standards and special order deadlines
  • Requisition stocked parts in accordance to the bill of material or Engineer provided parts list
  • Utilize Syteline ERP system to look up inventory and review bill of materials
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices
  • Prepare and work with various adhesives and epoxies as part of assembly process
  • Follow safety protocols and adhere to all company policies and core values
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station daily
  • Respond to emails timely

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to assemble small components
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and verbal direction
  • Excellent manual dexterity and precise hand/eye coordination
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and have excellent time management

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of Electro-mechanical assembly and soldering experience in a Production
  • Manufacturing, or Engineering environment
  • Familiarity with ESD procedures and protocols
  • Must be able to interpret technical drawings, schematics, work instructions
  • Background in troubleshooting and quality assurance
  • Strong soldering skills (IPC certification a plus)
  • Experience in the Manufacturing of Electronics
  • Experience using a lathe and drill press, a plus
  • Ability to use various hand tools, multimeters, and microscopes
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting electronic equipment preferred

Work Environment

This position is exposed to manufacturing noise, epoxies/adhesives, fumes, and odors

Depending on experience this MAY be a temp to hire position.

(You will start with an agency for 30-60 days, afterwards you will be eligible to be hired directly by Ocean Technology Systems)

2 shifts available, including every other Friday off!

9/80:

  • Monday-Thursday: 6:30 am – 4 pm
  • Friday: 6:30 am – 3pm (every other Friday off)

10/80

  • Monday-Thursday: 7:30 am – 4pm
  • Friday: 6:30 – 3 pm
