What is a Full Face Mask?

The simple answer is it is a diving mask that integrates a 2nd stage regulator into it and covers the diver’s entire face. From there, what dictates what Full Face Mask is right for you depends on your needs and wants as a diver. There are many options available, however the two most widely used Full Face Masks on the market are our Guardian Full Face Mask and Spectrum Full Face Masks.

Why would I want to dive a Full Face Mask?

Environmental

Any diving in water that might be detrimental to a diver’s health is potentially alleviated. Combined with a proper drysuit, dry gloves and an attached latex hood, a diver can be afforded an extra level of protection from cold and/or contaminated water.

Physiological

Traditional bite mouthpiece regulators offer little to no protection if a diver goes unconscious underwater. The Guardian and Spectrum Full Face Masks provides a breathable airspace, secured to the diver’s face that can afford an opportunity of survival.

Communications

Because our Full Face Masks have an “oral / nasal” pocket, a microphone can be mounted into the mask. This allows a diver to be able to articulate without interference from a mouthpiece. The Guardian and Spectrum have PTT buttons located on the right jaw of the mask.

Experience

Many find that diving a Full Face Mask is the next step of evolution in diving. The advantages are numerous including: ability to breathe through nose throughout dive, keeping a diver’s face warm and dry and the ability to communicate with other divers.
